Betty Cooper is "Goth".
This is just kind of embarrassing, even if it is par for the course for Archie Comics.
Yes. Betty Cooper becomes a "Goth".
Further commentary here.
(I'd be remiss if I didn't point out I came to the item from here.
My thoughts? #1: The writer, "Holly G", is a Wiccan. Don't ask me how I know that... I picked it up in comments from a comics-related blog or message board. #2: Somewhere in the 1980s, they had a clueless story where Jughead became a "punk". In the end, it was to "explore the subculture" for the school newspaper. The companay is apparently proud of this story, and thus included it in their "Americana Series: Best of the 80s" collection. Jump forward to 1991, and Daryl Edelman gave him a mohawk so as to "hippen" up the title. #3: As a rule, the best Archie did with a subculture was a story in 1959 where Archie and Jughead were beatniks. Innocuous enough, but... the comic will show up in any collection Archie does that purports to be their "Best" or "handling of the times". #4: The story is lame.
